Flamboyant Cuttlefish by MegLyman Flamboyant Cuttlefish by MegLyman
Metasepia pfefferi, or the Flamboyant Cuttlefish, is one cool little cephalopod. It usually dresses in drab browns, but when threatened, it lights up like a carnival. Not only does it sport a cool color scheme, it also has a poisonous bite (probably related to color, right?), AND it sort of walks along the muddy bottoms of the Indo-Pacific using its fourth arms. And they're tiny, rarely exceeding 3 inches. CUTENESS

6x8" Gouache on Gessoboard

Nice! Though, its bite isn't poisonous - it's actually the muscle that is poisonous, if consumed. Crazy cool animals, though, cuttlefish.

Woaaah the colors are awesome! You really focused on all the details! This animal was fun to draw because it has a lot of spots and patterns on the skin to create a cool texture! :D

It's rare to find someone else that uses gouache :)

And you've done a lovely job with it, as well.

Traditional. And so beautiful. :meow: I like the transparent fin around the middle, and how you made it obviously transparent, and the background. It's got nice texture. :meow:

Its amazing how recently scientists discovered it had venom, making it one of the few cephalapods with poison that can kill!

I LOVE THIS SPECIES, OMFG.

Poisonous cuttlefish rock! I guess all that cute walking and flamboyance (plus poison) make up for the lame cuttlebone, no?

Lol, blue ringed octopus doesn't have nearly as much awesome as these guys. :3

He's entirely wubbly - though probably not cuddly! He remonds me in his size and poisonousness of our Australian 'blue-ringed octopus'. He's a sweety, too - and deadly with it.

Yeah, one of three in the "not cuddly because OMG poisonous" club. Also, the striped pajama squid (also a cuttlefish).

I looked him up, and interestingly, found only one (repeated) reference that he was poisonous - one said that his slime might be poisonous, but we don't know. I couldn't find any ref's to actual 'attacks'. Interesting that he's anothe Aussie, though!

Oooh, Meglyman and [Unknown] sitting in a tree, K.I.S.S.I.N.G :-P

These paintings, are they worthy of DA?

I did go to Pi-Con, had a blast. 3 days of pure geekness and tech talk. Anyone from the mass media crowd would have been killed from the pure geek field surrounding the hotel.
